I’ve been building things most of my life.
I got my start young, working in my dad’s wood shop and learning the trade from my grandfather, who was a contractor. From day one, it was drilled into me to do things the right way—use good materials, build it solid, and don’t cut corners.
In 9th grade, I made the decision to attend Oak Ridge Military Academy, following in my dad’s footsteps—he’s an alumnus. That experience taught me discipline, accountability, and how to show up and handle my business, lessons that still carry over to the jobsite today.
After graduating, I went on to East Carolina University, where I earned a degree in Industrial Distribution. That path led me into the distribution and industrial supply world, where I learned a lot about heavy equipment, material handling, safety, tools, construction methods, and fabrication.
I also ran a large steel warehouse, where I was responsible for day-to-day operations. I learned how to operate overhead bridge cranes, load straight trucks, and handle deliveries of steel and other industrial materials safely and efficiently. That hands-on experience gave me a strong understanding of logistics, jobsite coordination, and working around serious equipment.
When I was 20, I bought my first house in downtown Wilmington and rebuilt the whole thing myself. That project lit the fire. From there, I took on remodels, additions, and custom work wherever I could, learning more with every job.
By the time I hit 30, I started my own construction business. For the next 12 years, I was hands-on every day—framing, decking, problem-solving, and figuring things out the hard way when needed. That kind of experience doesn’t come from books. It comes from being out there and making things work.
Today, all of that comes together at Intricate Marine Construction—building docks, bulkheads, seawalls, boat lifts, gazebos, and waterfront structures that are built right and built to last. No shortcuts. No fluff. Just honest work.
